Nuts About: Diane Schroller

At OneMarysville, we know that strong communities are full of people who care. Each week, we feature a resident who has given their time and talents to make Marysville the best community in Kansas.

Find out why we’re nuts about Diane Schroller!

Diane has been deeply involved with the Auxiliary, holding every office in the local Unit 163 in Marysville, including President. Over the years, she has given countless hours to programs and events including Poppy Day, Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, Membership, Girls State, Bingo and Soup Days. Her commitment to service has extended beyond the local level as well—she has served in every officer role for District 1 Auxiliary, including President, and currently serves as District 10 Treasurer.

Beyond the Auxiliary, Diane has contributed her time throughout the community in many ways. She has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and has helped beautify Marysville through local garden club projects, including planting and maintaining flowers all over town.

At Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Diane is known as someone willing to help wherever needed. She assists with funeral dinners, Soup Day, Vacation Bible School and Bundles for Babies, serves as a snack leader for Sunday School and participates in Dial A Devotion. She is also active in Evening Circle and Circle of Faith, where she has served in leadership roles.

Her service continues through Meals on Wheels and visits to the nursing home, where she spends time playing dominoes with residents.

Diane has also served the community through local government as a former member of the Marysville City Council.

Through her dedication, leadership and willingness to serve wherever there is a need, Diane has made a lasting impact on Marysville and the people around her.

Let’s hear from Diane about why she continues to give back to Marysville:

How long have you lived in Marysville? What is your favorite thing about living here?

I grew up in Herkimer, then went to high school in Marysville. My husband was in the National Guard and we lived in Colorado Springs for a short time, but we’ve lived in our home here for 53 years. I’ve lived here forever and haven’t known any other place. Marysville is a friendly town where you know most everybody. I think we can take it for granted having lived here all our lives, but when people come into town, they comment on what a nice place it is, and how much history we have with the Pony Express Barn, the Koester House, and the Historic Courthouse.

Tell us about one of your favorite ways to volunteer.

I volunteered for Marysville Main Street when they were getting started. I was on a committee that worked on signage around town; that was really interesting work. I also volunteer by giving tours at the Historic Courthouse. There are so many things to look at and they’re getting more all the time. I love looking through everything and all the research they have on the history of Marshall County.

What would you tell someone who wants to get more involved as a volunteer?

You can visit the city office or OneMarysville – there are always things to do! Even small jobs, like pulling weeds around town, are things anyone can help with.

Which of Marysville’s Black Squirrels on Parade is your favorite?

I’ve always liked Cyclone by the Lakeview baseball field. Another favorite is Lily at City Park, since she was sponsored by the Garden Club, and I still take care of the roses at the park.
