Matt Watroba is a minstrel on a mission. A protégé of the late Pete Seeger – who helped bring American folk music to the mainstream – Matt has carried that torch forward, leading community sing-alongs across the nation. Fresh from the Walnut Valley Music Festival in Winfield and a stop in Coffeyville, he’s coming to Marysville to lead us in song.
His sing-along will be the grand finale of the “Welcome to Marysville: Newcomers and Networkers” event (5–7 p.m. at Venue 36). It’s the perfect way to wrap up an evening dedicated to building community.
Matt believes music has the power to connect and heal. “People start to feel better when they sing, or even just tap a toe to music they recognize,” he says. “It’s almost impossible to be angry when you’re singing.”
Interest is already strong to make sing-alongs a regular Marysville tradition. St. Paul’s Church has even offered its historic log cabin as a future venue, and Matt will mentor local musicians and singers to keep the mission alive.
